Combustion Gas Analysers
1. Using an analyser - assembly, inspection and suitability of the analyser.
2. Using an analyser to dtermine CO levels and CO2 levels in dwellings.
3. Using an analyser to determine CO and CO2 levels in combustion products from:
- TYPE A appliances (flueless)
- TYPE B appliances (open-flued)
- TYPE C appliances (room-sealed)
and any appliance provided with a purpose designed sampling point or specific sampling instruction.
The analyser must conform to the requirements of BS7860 or BE EN 50379 - CO detectors or alarms conforming to these standards are unsuitable for use in combustion products and atmosphere analysis.
Checking ambient CO levels in dwellings (not assessed in CPA1)
The analyser should be of a type that measures CO or of a type that measures CO and O2 and calculates CO2 levels from the O2 measurement.
The accuracy if the analyser should be:
a) at levels at or below 20ppm CO -+5% or better.
Basic rules investigation of escapes of products of combustion:
a) protect life (including your own)
b) protect property
c) locate all fuel burning appliances
d) locate any escape of gas, fumes, smells or spillage/leakage of combustion products
e) confirm the safe installation and operation of all suspect gas appliances
f) advise the customer of any remedial action that is required.
